The many benefits of Reiki for children include the ability to heal anxiety and fear, to improve self confidence, to develop better social skills, promotes a sense of calmness and well being and to speed the healing process when a child is sick. Reiki is also helpful in maintaining a child’s health and preventing imbalances. In addition, Reiki can be a beneficial solution to many common childhood difficulties, such as feeling down on a day-to-day basis.
Since Reiki works on all levels of the body, including physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual, it will use the energy to find balance in its own way. It will adjust to the moment and the needs of the individual. Because Reiki is balancing, it can benefit regardless of the type of “disorder” and can provide soothing moments for parents and children alike.
When working with children, sessions often look quite different to a standard reiki appointment with an adult. Usually we’d be in the same room as the child, offering the energy gently, without touching or even being near the child. We spend time with the child, playing or coloring, letting them guide the session. As the child becomes more comfortable and the energy begins to work, changes can be made to how the child receives Reiki.
